Netflix has released the trailer for Ray Gunn, the upcoming film from The Incredibles and The Iron Giant director Brad Bird.
For Bird, the moment is decades in the making, as he's been working to bring Ray Gunn to the big screen since the '90s. The long-gestating passion project is a blend of sci-fi and film noir that transports viewers to the massive city of Metropia, a world of mile-high skyscrapers, flying cars, and aliens and humans alike. It's a world full of intrigue and corruption, and trying to get to the bottom of all that is the city's lone private eye, the down-on-his-luck Ray Gunn (voiced by Sam Rockwell).
(Not to be confused with Australian breakdancer Raygun, who's also found a home on Netflix in the form of a documentary.)
Ray and his alien associate Eyera (voiced by Tom Waits) need a job, fast. Otherwise, their business will go under. Luckily for them, a high-profile case lands in their laps, involving volatile media superstar Venus Nova (voiced by Scarlett Johansson) and a grisly murder. But is Venus truly the dangerous femme fatale everyone suspects her to be?

Ray Gunn opens in select theaters Dec. 4, and premieres Dec. 18 on Netflix.
