Last year, Josh O’Connor awed critics and audiences with his smoking hot role in the love triangle/tennis drama Challengers. This fall, he's got three movies coming our way: the romance The History of Sound, the whodunnit Wake Up Dead Man, and last but not least, the crime comedy The Mastermind, which is helmed by heralded writer/director Kelly Reichardt (First Cow, Showing Up).
Set in 1970 Massachusetts, The Mastermind stars O'Connor as J.B. Mooney, a husband, father, and unemployed carpenter who suspects he might be a brilliant art thief in the making. Ignoring the pleas of his rational wife (Licorice Pizza's Alana Haim), J.B. plots a heist with the help of some friends. And it's easy to expect this scheme will throw his quiet life into spin.
Joining O'Connor and Haim in Reichardt's latest are celebrated actors Gaby Hoffmann, John Magaro, Hope Davis, and Bill Camp. The trailer from MUBI gives a taste of what this ensemble will bring to The Mastermind while highlighting the praise Reichardt's comedy received in its Cannes Film Festival debut.
Ahead of its theatrical release, The Mastermind will premiere at New York Film Festival. Be sure to look for Mashable's coverage out of the fest for the very best and to know what movies should be on your radar come awards season.
The Mastermind will open in theaters Oct. 17.
