Stephen Colbert struggling to explain 6-7 is a fun watch

October 31, 2025

A man in a suit stands on at talk show stage, looking exasperated.

We regret to inform you that the "6-7" trend — which basically involves kids saying "6-7" whenever they can — has grown so big that dictionary.com has actually made "67" the word of the year. And Stephen Colbert is just as confused as the rest of us.

"No! Word of the year has to be a word, not numbers. Some things can't be numbers!" says an exasperated Colbert in the Late Show clip above.

"For the uninitiated, 6-7 is a viral trend where if anyone says the number six or the number seven, or if there's any reason to talk about numbers at all, every young person within earshot goes, "6-7". As in, what time do you get off work? 6-7. Or, how many cookies did you eat? 6-7. On a scale of 1-5, how dumb does Stephen feel explaining this? 6-7."
