Introduction 1 With the recent proliferation of tablets and smartphones, marketers are faced with the challenge of creating engaging experiences for their audience regardless of the device they use. A report by Javelin Strategy and Research revealed that US tablet adoption is expected to increase by 40% in the next 4 years, from 52.4 million in December 2012 to 75.8 million by 2016. Currently, 129.4 million people in the US own smartphones and Forbes states that 1.2 billion smartphones are expected to enter the market by 2017. Additionally, Comscore predicts that mobile devices will overtake traditional desktop usage this year.
